Through the 'Make India Play' initiative, ACF is supporting 10 primary and upper primary schools in Darlaghat to promote sports activities amongst boys and girls, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), who via 'Art of Play', provide the curriculum and Teacher Training for the project.
A 3-day Physical Education Teacher (PET) training workshop was conducted at the Government Senior Secondary School in Darlaghat to train teachers on the curriculum, along with techniques, games and assessment processes. Teachers are now rolling out sports activities in schools to engage students and counter the growing trend where students spend majority of their time on mobile phones.
Programme Coordinator, Aarti Soni believes the initiative will be transformative for children. "It will be helpful in channelizing the energy of the students in a positive direction - enabling students to develop their stamina through different playing techniques on the ground and through their physical assessment by means of different tests." She said.
Training will be provided to Physical Education Teachers of the schools twice a year and curriculum will be designed and rolled out with implementation support from ACF in Darlaghat Schools. With experience from this pilot project, ACF hopes to scale the initiative in the future.
