We work with industry to identify skilling needs, then find and support rural youth to obtain those skills and gain meaningful, dignified employment. We also foster entrepreneurship – helping youth kickstart micro and small enterprises in their communities.

Siddis are an ethnic tribal group of people from North East Africa who were brought to India as slaves by the Arabs and Portuguese in 868 AD. Landless and economically vulnerable, they work as labour at construction sites and on agricultural fields. ACF’s SEDI recognized that there was a latent potential among Siddi youth and set about empowering them with skill training – and placing them in jobs!

ACF’s SEDI is breaking gender stereotypes, smashing them in fact, by training girls in male dominated trades like electronics, welding and RAC. Hundreds of disabled youth are getting jobs, starting businesses and earning – thanks to SEDI. Whether it be Idrish Jokyiya from Rajasthan, who lost both his arms in an accident; or Nrishingha Malik from West Bengal who is both deaf and dumb – SEDI has helped over 270 disabled youth to learn a skill, kickstart their own enterprise and generate incomes to support their families.

At ACF we believe entrepreneurship to be a key driver of rural prosperity in the future. To help develop entrepreneurs at the grassroots level, and equip them with the skills necessary for success, ACF’s SEDI has been nurturing entrepreneurs since inception, and recently formally launched its Enterprise Development Program. As a result, over 20,000 micro and small enterprises have been established, providing much needed services in remote communities and providing flourishing livelihoods to their founders.

SEDI graduates are further supported via an Alumni Chapter - formed as a platform for all Alumni placed in the same region to connect and support one another. Connecting graduates via a Whatsapp Group, students become a force for inclusion, bonding, and career advancement. The Alumni act as a social support system in settling them into their accommodation, advising them on travel and transport and also introducing the culture of the area.
