OUR PRESENCE Uttar Pradesh

THE CHALLENGES

In Dadri, 18% of the population is under 5 years of age and there is a high incidence of malnutrition among this age group. This is a result of overall undernutrition of adults and in particular mothers – leading to low birth-weights, and is exacerbated by a lack of awareness of infant and young child feeding and caring practices.

There is inadequate access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation facilities which enhances the vulnerability of the local population. Additionally, the local population faces issues with income generation and access to Government schemes.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Communities are being empowered to tackle local water issues, via ACF’s water program which includes a focus on drip irrigation. There is a focus preparing each village for water security and on water budgeting. Awareness is being generated on the efficient use of surface and groundwater, whilst educating people on the need for rainwater harvesting for recharge. Additionally, handpumps have been installed in villages to reduce the drudgery of women.
